Tear

This was taken a month ago. He was still waking up from a nap when I snapped this pic while Betsy held him.
I just love this kid.
Much Metta,

Big Trouble
Life as Betsy and I know it is about to encounter another drastic change…
Here’s the incriminating evidence…
Darn Tootin’
Ok, one more. We’re feeding Miles. At least that what we think we’re doing… Turns out, Miles is as bad at multitasking as his Daddy. Betsy has it right when she says “He looks like he’s about ready to bust”
Be sure to wait for the grin at the end. Priceless!
Miles Gets His Laugh On
I LOVE being a dad. One of my jobs seems to be the family comedian, and I take the role very seriously. We’ve been trying for a while to capture Miles laughing on video and finally had some success.
The first clip is Miles and his sippy cup. He’s such a cutie from behind, isn’t he?
The second clip is during dinner. It’s pretty early on in his introduction to solid foods, because he’s eating carrot. At least until I start making faces at him!
The third clip is the tail end of a laughing fit. He was laughing so hard his whole face turned red, and that was before Betsy saw it, and before she went and got the camera.
Enjoy!
Mile Dedication
We had a beautiful dedication for Miles this weekend. Thanks to all the people that came and all those that were with us in spirit. Amy Conner was as eloquent and poised as ever and helped us create a beautiful ceremony for our little one. As a special treat, a friend of Betsy and Amy’s agreed to play and sing as part of the ceremony. Thank you Cassie for making the day even more special for us!
Since it was mostly local family in attendance, we decided to create a little video of Cassie playing along with some photos from the day for those of you who couldn’t make it.
Thanks again to Amy and Cassie for your time. And a big thanks to Betsy for putting it all together and creating such a beautiful space for our little Miles.
Much Metta,
John
Favorite People

Betsy and I attended a wedding this weekend and took a moment to capture some photos in-between the wedding and the reception. I just had to share this pic of my 2 favorite people!
Much Metta,
John
Father’s Day
I don’t have much to write tonight, other than to say I had a wonderful first Father’s Day. All day I felt lucky to be a father, blessed to have such a beautiful and vibrant son, and honored to be able to go though it all with Betsy by my side. She’s such a gift in my life, and to have her choose to walk this path with me is a dream come true.
She made me a card for Father’s Day:

Not only is a beautiful (and actual) footprint from little Miles, but it has a little poem inside too. All hand made, with love.
Life is good. Spread the word.
Much Metta,
John
Swim Day

Today was a swim day! Miles decided we were going to go to grandma’s house and do a little swimming today, so Betsy and I packed up our bags (and bags and bags and bags) of stuff, and headed north to the Smith swimming hole. I have it on good authority that Betsy is blogging about the same thing right now, and since she usually does a great job telling the story, make sure you check out her site: Life with Miles
I did want to point out a couple things she might not get to. First off is the matching trunks. As father, I feel I not only have the right, but the responsibility to occasionally coordinate clothes with my son. Besides, it’s not too dorky, is it? See for yourself:

We had him in both a baby pool, as shown above, and the swimming pool proper, this time in a baby boat! Is this not the quintessential baby in the pool pic?

Here’s a close up of him in the baby pool with his mother behind him.

I’ve heard babies don’t always like to go swimming, especially not the very first time, and certainly not in cold water. Although Miles looked mildly concerned the entire time, he not once got upset or protested at all. Even when I was so brazen as to dunk him under. (much to Betsy’s horror, I’m sure!)
The whole afternoon was topped of by a visit from the Dumire family! Here’s Jim speaking Miles’ language:

Miles loved meeting Jim and let him know with some genuine giggles, which I believe are the first he’s shared with anyone other then Betsy and I!
A BIG thanks goes out to Sherry for all her work putting together the pool area and making it all very baby friendly. Thanks Sherry!
Tomorrow is Father’s Day. My first, and I’m very much looking forward to it. I’m just so blessed to have a wonderful family!
Much Metta,
John
More Miles Fun!
Betsy asked if I would create these couple videos for her to post on her blog, and they are SO cute, I just couldn’t resist the urge to put them up here too.
Betsy caught the tongue video, and then captured my having a good laugh with Miles. He’s SUCH a good baby. We took him to dinner with us tonight (celebrating Betsy getting over her cold) and our waitress commented on what a good baby he is. He was all smiles.
You know, one of the most amazing things lately about Miles is how quickly he will learn something. One day he has no idea he even has a tongue and the very next day he can’t stop playing with it. It’s like he discovers a new skill over night! Today he was reaching for and grabbing a ring for the very first time. That may not sound like a big deal, but he’s been trying to do it for a couple days and today… he got it. And then did it several times. I’m so proud of my little Bubby.
Ok, enough mushiness. Enjoy the video!
Much Metta,
John
